From 4th of May – 16th of May 09, 8am – 8pm, NCPA

Applications Open Now
Application deadline 15th April

Six highly experienced theatre professionals from a range of theatre traditions across India, will come together to train actors in voice, movement, rhythm, singing and acting methodologies, for two weeks, full time, at the rehearsal rooms of the NCPA.

They bring decades of full time training and experience to Mumbai using theatre practices from Manipur, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu along with theatre styles from other countries like Japanese Noh, Beijing Opera, Russian Theatre, to name just a few.

The NCPA hosts this initiative put together by Jehan-Sam Manekshaw (MFA Theatre Directing, U of London, BA Theatre Wesleyan, US), with guidance from S.Raghunandana (NSD Academic Council). Trainers include Sankar Venkateshwaran (TTRP Singapore), Sanjay Upadhyay (IPTA NSD), Kalamandalam VKK Hariharan (Tricchur), Ravi Verma (Pondichery) and H. Tomba (Kalakshetra, Manipur).

Born from the most rigorous
and advanced workshops for actors
available in Mumbai

Created only last year, TPPL provides the only forum in Mumbai for practicing actors working in Drama and Film to do regular riyaaz under highly accomplished theatre practitioners from across the country and abroad. Past trainers have included Anamika Haksar (NSD), K Manjappa (Ninasam Theatre Institute, Karnataka) and Caroline Horton (Ecole Philippe Gauliere, Paris). Every month, actors are pushed by world class theatre professionals towards new levels of excellence in the actor’s craft.

We believe that excellence in acting is
achieved through hard work and self discipline
and we encourage all those committed to
the craft of acting from any background
anywhere in the country to apply.

Application Details: We practice a rolling application process, where we evaluate CV’s and assign seats to a certain number of participants every three to six days. The later you apply, the fewer seats will be available. Please apply no later than April the 15th, with a complete CV and bio-data (with full details of all your performance and training experience) and brief email explaining why you would like to do this course, and how you expect to take your training on this course further. Email idp@theatreprofessionals.co.in

Fees: 8,000 Rupees (we are working to reduce this amount – in the interim, please do not use fees as a deciding factor, as we have a variety of payment options for actors who have genuine difficulty in paying this amount in one go.)

Venue: Rehearsal Rooms at the National Centre for Performing Arts, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

Time: May 4th – May 16th (Except Sunday 10th May), 8am – 8pm (actors will be expected to show up no later that 7:45am each day)

If you are outside Mumbai:
We are working on finding volunteers in Mumbai to accommodate you during this time.
We will also be looking at cheap hostel accommodation in the area (college hostels etc) where you will be able to stay. (To be confirmed).

Apart from the intensive engagement in actor training described above:

  • You will be introduced to a range of highly experienced theatre practitioners who will personally engage with you across two weeks.
  • You will meet other committed dedicated theatre actors and directors who are also there to learn the craft
  • You will join a new generation of performers in India, and be associated with a company that believes in constant networking, sharing of information, and the creation of new opportunities for professional performance work
