Pankhdiyaan’ is a unique Poetry-Theatre Production that involves three actors (Anupam Kher, Kabir Bedi and Juhi Babbar) reading on stage poetry of three eminent Indian poets; Ali Sardar Jaffri, Sarojini Naidu and Maqdoom Mohiuddin, a vocalist (Zila Khan, daughter of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Ali Khan) and a fusion dancer (Vani Ganapathi) performing and a musician (Rahul Sharma) playing santoor live on stage. It presents on stage poetry with three live performing art forms; theatre, dance and music embellished by aesthetic sets and lights by M. S. Sathyu. The production is conceived, written and directed by Mohammad Ali Baig.
It is designed as a lyrical, aesthetic, over-an-hour long production for today’s audience. It is on lines of our
earlier production ‘Raat Phoolon Ki’ which was previewed for a select audience and members of the press and had received rave reviews internationally. It was opened during the worldwide birth centenary celebrations of poet Maqdoom, featured at the ‘World Performing Arts Festival’ abroad, Rafi Peer Theatre Festival in Lahore, alongwith Girish Karnad’s ‘Wedding Album’, Nadira Babbar’s ‘Daya Shankar ki Diary’ and National School of Drama’s ‘Azizun’.
