For two and half weeks in July the Pune-based artist Aditi Kulkarni will set up her studio in
the gallery to develop a series of works that relate to what she calls the alienation of space,
or our perceptual relationship to gravity, space, memory and the flow of time and experience.
Interested in states of consciousness, hypnosis and parallel dimensions in time, Kulkarni will
construct a site-specific installation that employs kinetic sculpture, photography and moving
images to create an immersive sensory experience. Born in Mumbai in 1982, Kulkarni has
participated in residencies, film festivals and group exhibitions in India, the US, the UK and
Europe. Of particular note are her inclusion in Third Eye, the 6th Asian Film Festival,
Mumbai, in 2007, a research residency at Spike Island in Bristol, UK, in 2009 (funded by a
grant from the Charles Wallace Foundation), inclusion in Hyphenated Practice, a group show
of emerging artists at FICA, Vadehra Gallery, Delhi, and Sowing Seeds, KhasBaug, Jodhpur,
Rajasthan. More recently she has participated in a residency at Braziers International Artist
Workshop, UK, a group show at Shift Gallery, London, both in 2010, and Differences and
Similarities, a Group Show, Urban Dialogues, in Zorsel, Belgium, 2011.
