“Anoushka looks set to be as important as her father”, declares the BBC Music Magazine. Such is the awesome talent of 30 year old Anoushka Shankar daughter of the incomparable Ravi Shankar.
Travelling to India in early 2012 to regale her legions of fans with her new album aptly titled “Traveller”, this world acclaimed musician has the been making giant strides in the music industry the world over.
Anoushka’s latest offering and her sixth album, “Traveller” combines the ardently blazing and hypnotic music of Spain with the dynamic and vivid Indian notes. Traveller follows the gypsies’ journey from their roots in Rajasthan, across the continent to their new home in Spain. The project, which Anoushka calls a “raga flamenco journey”, originated with her wish to retrace the 1000-year-old bond between Indian and Spanish musical traditions. Anoushka presents a stupendous show with her handpicked Indian and flamenco musicians and urges her fans to make the journey along with her.
Besides making strides as a fantastic sitar player, Anoushka Shankar has made a well deserved name for herself as a hugely talented composer. The music that she produces is a mellifluous blend of classical Indian with new and exciting fusion. This has been never more evident than with “Traveller.” Her previous CDs ‘Rise’ (nominated for a Grammy) and ‘Breathing Under Water’ were both marvelous successes. Traveller leads the way for a new generation of listeners to be introduced to and enraptured by the music.
Boldly passionate flamenco notes with soul stirring Indian instrumental adds up to a deeply satisfying musical journey.
